Our Mission
The USC Writing Center is committed to helping students at any stage of the writing process become better writers. Our mission is to help writers in all academic disciplines develop their writing abilities, to promote collaborative learning, to train graduate students in writing center teaching and administration, and to provide writing resources to our academic community.
Make an Appointment
Making Your Appointment
- Go here to log into the Writing Center's online scheduling service.
- Once the scheduling page appears, click the WHITE BOX (or the available appointment time) that best fits your availability.
- A new window titled "Create New Appointment" will pop up, which lets you schedule the length of your appointment (30 minutes or 60 minutes).
- In the "Meet Online" box, you will see three (3) options: "In-person," "Asynchronous text-based," and "Live video." Some tutors offer only remote options, so check to make sure the tutor you're working with offers in-person sessions.
- For live video tutoring appointments, click "No. Schedule face-to-face appointment.
- Fill out the remaining sections of the appointment form, including uploading your document(s). To upload your work, scroll to the bottom of appointment page and attach the files related to the work you want to review (i.e., assignment prompts, outlines, drafts, etc.). All files must be Word files (i.e., .doc or .docx files).
- Click "Create Appointment." The live video appointment is now scheduled!
Attending your appointment
- The Writing Center is located in Byrnes Hall, room 703 on the 7th Byrnes' address is 901 Sumter St., and it's across the street from the Horseshoe on the corner of Sumter and College. It's the same building where the new iHub Apple Store is. Do not go into the Apple Store. Use the door at the corner of the walk signal.
- Arrive 5 – 10 minutes early.
- Check in at the front desk when you arrive.
The person at the front desk will either direct you to the Writer's Lounge as your tutor wraps up a previous session or take you back to your tutor's table. If you wait in the lounge, feel free to make a cup of coffee or tea at our beverage station.

For live video tutoring appointments, click "Yes. Schedule Live video appointment."

- Click "Create Appointment." The live video appointment is now scheduled!
Logging in for your appointment
Five minutes before your session:
- Log into WCOnline.
- Click on your appointment to pull up the appointment form.
- In the "Meeting Online?" box, click on the hyperlink that says: "Start or Join an Online Consultation."
You're ready for your appointment! The tutor will meet you when the appointment starts. You will receive a client report form summarizing the session and next steps within 48 hours of the appointment's conclusion.

- A new window titled "Create New Appointment" will pop up. In this new appointment form, schedule the length of your appointment (30 minutes or 60 minutes). In the box that says, "Meet Online," you will see one or two options:
Asynchronous text-based and Live video. Pick a tutor who offers asynchronous text-based appointments.
For an asynchronous text-based appointment, where you upload a draft for tutor comments rather than communicating with your tutor in real time, click "Yes. Schedule Asynchronous text-based appointment."

Fill out the remaining sections of the appointment form, including the work you want reviewed.

To upload your work, scroll to the bottom of appointment page and attach the files related to the work you want to review (i.e. assignment prompts, outlines, drafts, etc.). All files must be Word files (i.e., .doc or .docx files).
- Click "Create Appointment." The online appointment is now scheduled!
During and after your session:
- Before the start of asynchronous text-based sessions, you must attach the document you want a tutor to review, along with the assignment or directions.
- The tutor will then read and comment on the file using the comment feature in Word during the appointment time. You will receive the document and a client report form via email twelve hours after the appointment has concluded.
